It all began with Mario Paglino (52) and Gianni Grossi (55)—partners in life and in extraordinary creativity. Together, as Magia2000, they turned Barbie dolls into canvases of art, fashion, and emotion. Their friendship and work spanned decades, inspiring fans worldwide.
🌟 A Life in Miniature Masterpieces
Mario and Gianni founded Magia 2000 in 1999 to transform Barbie dolls into high-fashion celebrities. Their creations represented icons like Madonna, Cher, Lady Gaga, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sophia Loren, and more. Their Madonna tribute dolls were showcased in London’s “Simply Madonna” exhibit in 2009, leading to their unforgettable meeting with Madonna on The Graham Norton Show.
Their artistry gained industry recognition. In 2016, they received the Barbie Best Friend Award—a rare honor personally presented by legendary designer Carol Spencer. Their style carried fashion from canvas to dolls with elegance and emotion.

🤝 Giving Back Through Love and Art
Beyond craftsmanship, Mario and Gianni used their talents to give back. Their dolls raised funds for important causes. One charity auction in 2015 raised $15,000—that’s enough to support children’s projects or local communities.
They also helped lead the Italian Doll Convention, launched in 2011—Europe’s largest gathering dedicated to fashion dolls and creativity. The convention wasn’t just for collectors; it was a place of friendship, passion, and wonder, thanks to their warm spirit that made everyone feel included.

🚗 A Tragic Loss
On July 27, 2025, while driving near Marcallo‑Mesero on Italy’s A4 Turin–Milan highway, Mario and Gianni were tragically struck head‑on. An 82-year-old driver, Egidio Ceriano, had been traveling the wrong way for over four miles, before colliding with their vehicle at high speed. Mario, Gianni, and bank employee Amodio Valerio Giurni (37) died in the crash; Giurni’s wife Silvia Moramarco (36) survived and is receiving treatment in Milan.
The world lost more than designers that day. We lost two souls who saw dolls not as playthings, but as expressions of creativity, identity, and joy.
💌 A World Mourns
Mattel and the Barbie team paid heartfelt tribute on Instagram:
“The Barbie team is heartbroken...Their spirit and love for the brand turned every creation they touched into a masterpiece... Beyond their remarkable talent, they shared an energy that lit up every space they entered... Barbie is better because they loved the brand... our beloved collector community is richer for having known them.”
Collectors and fans echoed the sentiment across the globe—sharing photographs, stories, and memories of Mario and Gianni’s warm kindness, artistic passion, and genuine friendship.

A small poem for Mario & Giannia 👗💖🎀👠🩰
In a world of sparkle, thread, and lace,
Mario and Gianni found their place.
With every doll they shaped by hand,
They shared a dream, both bright and grand.
From Madonna gowns to silver shoes,
Their art was love, expressed in hues.
Though they are gone, their magic stays—
In every doll that lights our days.
They showed the world that joy can start
With tiny hands and a giant heart.
